Winona-Ryder
Winona Ryder is the professionally-known name given to Winona Laura Hoowitz, born in Winona Minnesota. She was named by her parents after the town where she grew up. Michel Horowitz was her father and Cynthia Palmer, his mother, were both authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into a Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress is the younger sister of Uria, and has half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's parents moved her and her siblings into Mendocino County California when Ryder reached seven. There, they didn't have electricity. Ryder would read extensively due to the lack of television. Ryder, then 12, took up a place at the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. Lucas was let go in 1986. Ryder, who was only 15, landed an acting job as a lead actress. Ryder was bullied in high school. Her acting career, she hoped, would help her. But it wasn't to come to be. It didn't stop her from making plans for her future. Her breakthrough came in 1988 with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued to play successful parts in a variety of films. In 1993, she received an Oscar Award to be awarded for The Age of Innocence.
